Sunday 24th July

We welcome

Bishop Right Reverend David Urquhart to celebrate

Hazelwell Centenary Communion Service

If you’re new or a visitor

Welcome to Hazelwell.

Children are welcome here. We have a children’s corner with activities during the service.

If you are not able to sit/stand during different parts of the service, please feel free to do whichever is most comfortable for you. If you are unable to come to the rail for communion, and would like to receive communion or a blessing, please let one of our welcomers know before the service begins, so that we can come to you instead

If you or someone with you (including a child who receives normally Communion) would prefer to receive non-alcoholic wine, please let the minister know at the rail.

The offering plate tends to come round during the third hymn; while we welcome gifts, please only contribute if you feel you’d like to.

Please do join us for Pimms after the service.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

who died for us,

forgive us all that is past

and grant that we may serve you in newness of life

to the glory of your name. Amen.

Crown him with many crowns,

The Creed (We remain standing)The Right Rev’d David Urquhart

Do you believe and trust in God the Father?

I believe in God,

the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe and trust in God the Son?

I believe in Jesus Christ,

his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit?

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of CommitmentThe Rev’d Nicholas Jones

God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another.

I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.

He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work.

I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place,

while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments.

Therefore, I will trust Him. Whatever I am, I can never be thrown away.

If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him.

He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about.

He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about.”

'I am no longer my own but yours.

Put me to what you will,

rank me with whom you will;

put me to doing,

put me to suffering;

let me be employed for you,

or laid aside for you,

exalted for you,

or brought low for you;

let me be full,

let me be empty,

let me have all things,

let me have nothing:

I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things

to your pleasure and disposal.

And now, glorious and blessed God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

you are mine and I am yours. So be it.

And the covenant now made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven.'

Prayers of Intercession(we sit) Mrs Chris Mitchell

The following or another appropriate response may be used.

Lord, in your mercy

hear our prayer.

And at the end

Merciful Father,

accept these prayers

for the sake of your Son,

our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The PeaceThe Right Rev’d David Urquhart

The peace of the Lord be always with you

and also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of God’s peace.

The whole congregation greet each other

(for example by shaking hands and saying “Peace be with you”)

Hymn (during which the offering is taken)

And can it be that I should gain

Holy CommunionThe Right Rev’d David Urquhart

The Lord is here.

His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation;

in your love you made us for yourself.

When we turned away you did not reject us,

but came to meet us in your Son.

You embraced us as your children and welcomed us to sit and eat with you.

In Christ you shared our life

that we might live in him and he in us.

He opened his arms of love upon the cross and made for all the perfect sacrifice for sin.

On the night he was betrayed, at supper with his friends

he took bread, and gave you thanks;

he broke it and gave it to them, saying:

Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;

do this in remembrance of me.

Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his body is the bread of life.

At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine,

he gave you thanks, and said:

Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,

which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins;

do this in remembrance of me.

Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his blood is shed for all.

As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory,

send your Holy Spirit

that this bread and this wine may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son.

As we eat and drink these holy gifts make us one in Christ, our risen Lord.

With your whole Church throughout the world we offer you this sacrifice of praise

and lift our voice to join the eternal song of heaven:

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest!

The Lord’s Prayer

As Jesus taught us, so we pray

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Amen.

The breaking of bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

Though we are many, we are one body,

because we all share in one bread.

Giving of Communion

Draw near with faith.

Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ

which he gave for you,

and his blood which he shed for you.

Eat and drink

in remembrance that he died for you,

and feed on him in your hearts

by faith with thanksgiving.

Most merciful Lord,

your love compels us to come in.

Our hands were unclean,

our hearts were unprepared;

we were not fit even to eat the crumbs from under your table.

But you, Lord, are the God of our salvation,

and share your bread with sinners.

So cleanse and feed us

with the precious body and blood of your Son,

that he may live in us and we in him;

and that we, with the whole company of Christ,

may sit and eat in your kingdom.

Amen.

The people come up for communion, starting with the musicians & singers.

If you would prefer to receive a blessing, please come up and keep your hands by your sides.

This prayer is said after Communion

Almighty God,

we thank you for feeding us

with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ.

Through him we offer you our souls and bodies

to be a living sacrifice.

Send us out in the power of your Spirit

to live and work to your praise and glory.

Amen.

Final Blessing & DismissalThe Right Rev’d David Urquhart

Pour out your Spirit, Lord, upon this church in its centenary year.

Fill them with your love, light, hope & faith, so that they may bear faithful witness to your living presence in their daily lives.

Breathe new life into their vision, their calling, and their ministries,

And may this church grow in both numbers, and in depth of knowledge and relationship with you.

And may the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with you, and remain with you, now and always. Amen

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord

In the name of Christ, Amen.
